For those who live to shop

Shopping opportunities in Amsterdam

In and around the beautiful and historic centre of the city, you’ll find everything from sophisticated department stores to unique boutiques, from antiques to contemporary Dutch design. Amsterdam inspires even the most cultivated shopper.

For designer stores and luxury boutiques, check out the P.C. Hooftstraat, Amsterdam’s most upscale and exclusive shopping street. The Spiegelkwartier is the place to go for antiques and art. Whether for serious collecting or just window-shopping, the more than 70 antique shops and galleries in this area have everything from paintings and ceramics to glass, jewellery and furniture. If department stores are your thing, try the broad collection of the Bijenkorf on Dam Square, the Maison de Bonneterie on the Kalverstraat or Vroom & Dreesmann nearby. Both Magna Plaza and the Kalvertoren shopping centre house many distinctive stores. The nine little streets that intersect the main canals between the Leidsestraat and the Jordaan district are home to a great collection of restaurants, cafés, art galleries, jewellers, boutiques and vintage stores that cater to every taste.

In sunny weather, you might choose to take in the delights of the famous flower market, hunt for bargains in the Waterlooplein, or join the locals at the street markets at the Albert Cuypstraat and Dappermarkt.
